“Don’t Sit This One Out”

Here’s the president delivering the final pitch of the Democratic National Committee:



Translation: We don’t have anything inspiring to say because the course we charted two years ago hasn’t worked out like we’d hoped. There’s no point charting a new course until the political headwind subsides.  But you've been to Tea Party America before and, if you listen, you'll hear your gut telling you that it's not where you want to go.  Drag your heels.

Granted, that’s not much of a closing argument, but you do the best you can. The only consolation for liberals is that, if you replace “Tea Party America” with “pointy-headed liberal America,” it’s essentially the argument Republicans were making in the closing days of the last two national elections.
