Another Closing Argument

Here’s one from Alexi Giannoulias, the guy trying to hold Obama’s Illinois Senate seat. Is it about serving the high ideals of the Democratic Party? Helping his good friend President Obama get the country back on the right track? Stopping the Republicans from diverting us onto the wrong track? Shoveling pork to the good people of Illinois? Warning Illinois voters that his opponent, Mark Kirk, is the spawn of Satan?

See for yourself:

Translation: Alexi Giannoulias is out of ammunition.

I guess Tony Rezko wasn't available to give a testimonial.

What Illinois and the USA really needs is a "phenomenal" US Senator. We don't have too many of these. Actually, are there any?

Obama is going to be in deep doo doo if Alexi gets elected and he does something unethical.

Ron -

I'm not sure what your point is...

I don't see how this ad is any different from any political ad from the end of any political season.

Somehow, you write as though this ad represented an exemplar of a corrupted Democratic party. I think that, in your current disaffection, you're seeing shadows that aren't there...

Anon. 7:49: Maybe you're right. But this isn't the normal smarmy end-of-campaign ad that turns a candidate's life into a political metaphor.

Those ads might make you gag, but at least they're about the political world seen from the candidate's standpoint rather than entirely about the candidate's oversized heart. If you ask me, there's a difference between tiresome political salesmanship and narcissism.

My take away impression from this ad is: "Alexi is a good boy" "He's nice to his grandma so vote for him." It's different than what I'm used to seeing in New York anyway where they at least mention the issues.
